These two lesson chapters went a little quicker for me. I am getting accustomed to where things are located within the application. I still had to deal with a few missing fonts and had to re-do a few steps, but those are getting fewer and fewer along the way. Yay!
Lesson 6
This exercise dealt with editing fonts and importing text. Changes to text formatting were rather easy to accomplish. Some of the steps in this lesson were similar to Word options.
The Story Editor made it easy to change the wording of certain areas without messing up graphics and alignment.
Lesson 7
The lesson was titled "Working with Typography" and taught me how to adjust spacing between words and paragraphs. I enjoyed getting to use special character effects known as "glyphs" to create an even more visually appealing look to a document.
Paragraph alignments and balancing were ways of polishing up the final copy. Kerning is the term used for adjusting the space between letters of text. This worked really well when the lesson called for a more pleasing look to some text that was used in "drop caps" format. The use of "tabs" will come in handy in instances requiring contact information like phone numbers and addresses.
C.R.A.P. elements:
Contrast: This was attainable through the manipulation of fonts. There are several options in the "characters" panel that can be used to create stunning effects highlighting certain parts of a block of text.
Repetition: This really wasn't a major part of the lesson. If it was a bigger document, the idea of using a "Drop Cap" could be repeated to give a more unified look.
Alignment: Changing the alignment of paragraphs created a cleaner, more organized look to the block of text containing recipes.
Proximity: Kerning, tracking and single-line composers were utilized to bring words and lines of text closer to each other for a more pleasing look.
