Lesson 10 was another one of those lessons that took me a long time to get through. There were so many steps that I was constantly re-doing a few of them just to get the required results. It got a little overwhelming reading through the technical aspects of alpha channels and Photoshop paths. Those areas are going to take a lot of practice to master.
Learning and actually seeing the difference between vectors and bitmap graphics was very interesting. The clarity achieved in using vectors was amazing! A few steps called for adjusting the display quality and as long as "preview" was selected, I could actually view the changes as they occurred and could pick the most desirable option. Importing flies and establishing libraries are two stapes that can definitely speed up the design process. Having a library of images is definitely worth using and is an easy resource for future assignments/projects. There were a few places where the text mentioned that re-load speeds could be hampered by certain graphic imports, but this lesson didn’t go too much into that aspect.
C.R.A.P. elements:
This lesson covered the Contrast element by manipulating backgrounds that made objects really stand out. When we worked with clipping paths around the group of pears, the result was a clean visual contrast between the color of both the fruit and the background. Contrast was also apparent when the title, “Orchard of Kings”, was updated with a bolder look.
To me, the best example of Repetition was in how the color purple was used throughout the product tie it all together. I liked the Alignment that was already in place for the song titles. The gentle curve gave a soothing feel to the text and gave the impression that the music would be just as soothing.
Proximity was demonstrated by having the information about the artist wrapped around the CD title.
