Lesson 8
This lesson dealt with the swatches panel to create and apply color. By choosing New Color Swatch from the Swatch menu, I was able to custom mix a color to be used later. This reminded me of going to a paint store and watching them mix the different hues to get the color of paint I needed. Our chapter in the other text gave information about mixing colors with white to get a tint and with black to get a shade. These would be great effects to use for my Contrast element of design. We were instructed to then color other elements in the newly created color to add the element of Repetition.
The part I liked best about this lesson was how to set up and use gradients. By manipulating the gradient swatch tool, I was able to change the actual direction of the gradient. This might be used as some sort of Alignment indicator by having the gradients themselves establish the lines.
Lesson 9
This lesson was all about "working with styles" in text and paragraph set ups. This lesson was not as easy for me and I actually started over once I got half way through it the first time. The steps to set up the "nested styles" had me all confused. I still couldn't get the names of the countries to accept the style that we were building on a group basis. I ended up having to do them individually. I plan to go over that part once more!
Lesson 9 included a list of teas and the information about them. This sort of layout demonstrated the Proximity aspect of design. Once could see very clearly that they were all connected in some way. The table styles that I set up will definitely come in handy. Once I have one table the way I want it to look, I can then apply the same look to other tables in my document.
